Tim's unique bike has gone bikeabout - without Tim! A month later they were reunited...
Nov 11, 2004: Tim's Rainbow Bike Friday FOUND!
Here's something to brighten a grey winter's day: salesguy Peter Berra was walking down the street and spotted Customer Service guy Tim Link's distinctive 'rainbow' Bike Friday being wheeled along by someone with more hair than Tim - obviously not Tim.
"STEP AWAY FROM THAT BIKE!" Peter did not bark. Actually, in his mild-mannered Pete kinda way he said:
'Excuse me, but I know who owns that bike,' and took possession of it without a fight - possibly because he a) recognized the man from his high school days, b) told him there were 40 people keeping an eye out for the bike including the police c) that the bike was Tim's only form of transport and d) um, Pete works for Bike Friday. In addition, this article was posted on the local bike club and OBRA lists.
The man apparently paid $50 for it - what a steal. The nice stuff - Thudbuster seatpost, saddle, rack, Vaude touring bags had all been removed. However, the bike did sport a nice new bottle cage.
We thought by now it'd be in Portland, dismembered and employed as part of a kinetic sculpture delivering pizza. Perhaps part of Tim's good fortune is that it's not a conventional looking bike.
So another Bike Friday is recovered - thanks to the distinctive appearance of the bikes and some sharp eyes. We might just remind you to make sure you keep your NAMEPLATE intact as that can also be useful in recovering the bike. Meanwhile, when in doubt, fold it and bring it inside! That's the beauty of a folding bike.
Tailpiece: Tim was recently seen repainting his bike the color of molten lava and putting on flat bars and fat tires. Looks like the Rainbow Rocket Llama is now a 9-speed Pocket Llava. Or somesuch ...

October 22, 2004: WHO STOLE TIM's RAINBOW BIKE FRIDAY?
"THERE IT WAS, minding its own business, locked to a tree with my normal cable lock. I'm guessing they just cut the lock. It was between 7 and 9 p.m. on Lincoln Street (Eugene, OR), week of September 27. Kind of dark there and not much traffic. I knew it wasn't a really smart idea to leave it there."
Well we all make misjudgements, but who could risk upping their bad karma quotient and steal Bike Friday Customer Service guy Tim Link's car, U-haul and Man Friday?
If anyone spots this unique technicolor Rocket Llama, without its distinctive owner, please contact Tim at Bike Friday, 1-800-777-0258, timl at bikefriday dot com
The reward? He might even tune up your bike!
