RESOURCEFUL Pam Haigh adapted her Bike Friday TravelSystem to carry her faithful companion, Earl, when he's not doing the navigating.
"Put two struts in the case to make an A-frame, add a rain cover, a cushion inside, and Bob's your Uncle (voila)," she said in true Downunder style.
We met Pam and her stoker Shirley at the Australian Bike Friday Club Gathering 2008.
"Even a blind person can put these bikes together," she said, motioning to the Family Tandem under her as they barrelled along. "Went to Germany in September, rode from Berlin to Copenhagen ..."

Someone else can do the navigating when I'm off the job!
It's the blind leading the sighted!
Pam takes pictures from the rear using excellent intuition and can read emails using a program called Zoomtext
Bike Friday has always extended its vision beyond merely selling bikes. Back in 1995 Bike Friday built the fire-engine red Family Tandem which initiated many programs for disabled children, including the Adapted Physical Education Project at Wayland Public School, MA., and the Tandem program at the L.A. Braille Institute.
Earl has the last word ...
"I love my dog's life!"
