The 45-minute DVD movie of the PACTOUR Peru expedition shot by Bike Friday Customer Evangelist Lynette Chiang aka Galfromdownunder was a hit at the inaugural Boston Bicycle Film Festival. A great coup for all concerned, particularly the 85 young orphans featured in the movie. Please DONATE! The DVD is available from the Bike Friday online store, and a portion of proceeds to Lon Haldeman's School and Orphanage fund.

COMMENT FROM THE FESTIVAL DIRECTOR:

Boston Bike Film Fest Audience Choice 2005! The first annual Boston Bike Film Festival was held over 2 nights in late October with a surprisingly high attendance given it being its inaugural year. Films were solicted from all over the country and ticket sales and donations exceeded $3000!

Films were shown in three categories: shorts, animated and features. The highest rated film (by audience poll) was the film by Lynette Chiang: 16,000 Feet on a Friday.

With the combination of heart warming messages and technical knowledge of this climb in Peru, this film won over the audience by a 2 to 1 margin. For more information, please see www.bostonbikefilmfest.org

Come Pedal Your Film! October 21-22, 2005

Here's a report by Boston Bike Friday owner John S Allen who was at the screening.

16,000 Feet on a Friday, a video about a bicycle tour over the world's highest paved road (Peru), was an opening night favorite at the inaugural Boston Bicycle Film Festival screened on Friday October 21, 2005, at the 38 Cameron Street Artspace in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Festival served as a fundraiser for Hub on Wheelsand the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition. I rode in to give a short talk introducing the video, describing Lynette's unusual and highly personal technique: she uses the movie mode of a tiny digital camera which she carries in the pocket of her bicycle jersey. I have seen her do this ... she holds the camera in the palm of her hand, and turns the lens toward her face to narrate. We always know who is creating this video -- a very refreshing contrast to the disembodied point of view and unidentified narrator in much video and film work.

Highlights of the video included an epicurean, (or was that famished cyclists'?) appreciation of a dinner of roast (?) guinea pig, an oxygen tank session to combat altitude sickness, and an emotionally moving visit to an orphanage supported by Tour organizer and pioneering Race Across America champion Lon Haldeman (www.pactour.com).

An audience poll of approximately 100 viewers rated Chiang's video highest among the night's showings.
