A sign of hope downunder - seen on the way back from Sydney Airport. How would motorists react to this in the USA? Maybe it's good that you can't hear what people say with the windows rolled up! Screeech!! So much for gratitude. I've had my bird-cam trained on the land of 'football, meat pies, kangaroos & Holden cars' in order to bring you the latest on the shenanigans committed by The Handsomest Man in Cuba and what happens? I am told my perch is to be winched down to a less prominent spot on the home cage, er page.
Well, while other folks are waffling on about this year's Shimano parts and next year's carbon fiber bicycle bells, those who put attention to the Perch of Fred will be privy to the most interesting treddly trivia and unique imagery (like the shot above). After all, I can fly - without having to pack myself in a suitcase first... But I have to say the new BF headbadge is a stunner, and I am already figuring ways I can use it as a kind of bull-bar when I mistake the closed window in the factory for the wild blue yonder that it oft frames.
I took a look outside my cage and noticed the BF staff lunchtime riders are getting faster and faster ... great to see there's a shiela, sorry, a woman keeping up with the front of the pack, namely Candy Walker.
These 1-hour performance rides are the one time when BF isn't all soft and handholdy...I've been out over the course and speeds can get up to 50 mp/h in the case of Alan Scholz, who has this sneaky habit of sitting on a wheel like a limpet on a rock until the crucial moment - then 'pow' - breezily passing the person who towed him. Cheating? Nope, apparently it's called skill and tactics. The younger guns get themselves all hot & bothered with a show of premature bravado, but soon fall back as Alan zips merrily past them. Who said staying power decreased with age?
And speaking of riding fast, RAAM veteren and Coast to Coast tandem record holder Lon Haldeman has set the date for the first ever BF training camp in Arizona, April 4-11, 2004. More soon...
And what's this I see in the showroom - a foldable fairing for the Sat R Day? You heard it first from Fred...
