![]() WOULD YOU and your members be interested in a Cuba slide presentation / book reading at your bike club, outdoor Club, Library, bookstore or Cuba Afficionado society? THE HANDSOMEST MAN IN CUBA is a slide show and book about my 3-month solo self-supported bicycle tour through Cuba at the turn of the millennium. I traveled and stayed with Cubans on a bare-bones and bucket-bath basis, so this is not a romanticized travel memoir, but as one reviewer put it, "a song of praise for the humanity and simple decency of Cubans." Cuba is a hot topic. At the current time USA citizens are officially banned from spending money in the country, and many people are facing fines for going there. As one reader said, this book gives you such an incredible insight into what it is like to live and eat (very little) with the people you feel like you've been there. See The Handsomest Man in Cuba USA webpage for reviews, author bio, and book excerpts. I present a show consisting of 53 images of Cuba from a bicycle seat (about 25 minutes), book reading, Q&A, and a demo of the Bike Friday travel bicycle I ride. I am an Australian who left her home country to travel the world on a folding bike and didn't return for 7 years, so I can share a lot of tips, especially for solo women travelers. I would like to hear about any club, libraries, bookstores, local TV, radio, and paper contacts you have - please send to lynchiang@yahoo.com. If you can make the initial enquiry as a local person I'd be very grateful. Want to know what it's like to feel like John Grisham for 15 minutes? Read about my Random House Australia tour. Wherever I speak I like to try get Bike Friday owners and friends together to ride and socialize, in conjunction with the local Bike Friday Club and/or cycling clubs. Let me know if you're interested, by emailing lynchiang@yahoo.com or posting on the TOUR SUGGESTION BOARD. See also the Bike Friday Event Calendar for talk dates. Thanking you, and I hope to share the real Cuba with you soon.
