SEE THE REAL CUBA AND AVOID A $55,000 FINE.
Globe-Pequot Press, Feb 2007. ISBN-13: 978-0-7627-4390-2, ISBN-10: 0-7627-4390-5
With recent fines imposed on American citizens for visiting Cuba, many travelers have given up the idea of ever experiencing the 'buena vista' of this controversial Caribbean isle. The Handsomest Man in Cuba is an apolitical, no-bucket-baths spared tale of what it is like to eat, drink and be cautiously merry among ordinary and not-so ordinary Cubans, as told by Chinese-Australian bicycle traveler Lynette Chiang, also known as the Galfromdownunder. She can take almost anything that is flung at her - and almost everything is. The book features 8 pages of color photos, a foreword by fellow seasoned traveler The Metal Cowboy, and as one reviewer said, 'The only time you'll put it down is when you finish it'. This is not a book about the Cuba you already know, but a tale about what people were like before the world started spinning too fast to jump off.
Lynette left her 'nice house, bloke, job and fastish car', in 1997 to travel the world on a folding bike. Seven years later after living and traveling in England, Ireland, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, and Cuba, she found herself in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
A wealth of bedtime reading can be enjoyed on her site at http://www.galfromdownunder.com. The Galfromdownunder will be presenting a Cuba slide show, book reading and demonstration of the Bike Friday folding bicycle on the following dates: xx/xx/xx. The book is available from major book stores, Amazon.com, and from Bike Friday, 1-800-777-0257, service@bikefriday.com.
Reviews:

"One of the best on-the-road travel books of this generation." - Martin Stevenson, the Launceston Examiner
"In the glut of Cuban travel books, this one really stands out." - Caroline Baum, the Sydney Morning Herald.
