3. FRIDAY FRIENDLY STAYCATION: Ride with your local Bike Friday Club |
BIKE FRIDAY CLUBS ... AND REGULAR BIKE CLUBS Check out your local Bike Friday Club to see what members are up to. They've been hibernating? Join the club message board and suggest a short social ride or get together. Even easier, invite members to jump onto rides organized by your local main Bike Club(s) - they always welcome new faces and don't seem to mind our little wheels at all, unless they're hardcore Lancealikes (in which case, jump on if you happen to be a Fast Friday). If you're not game to put on studded tires like some hardcore Bike Friday Club of Bostonians, winter is a great time to have cozy potlucks and slideshows of where you plan to go in spring and summer. Or follow the sun and ride with Bike Friday Club of Hawaii folks and their local club, the HBL. And get creative! "Our Shortest Day of the Year ride is one of our most popular," says Bike Friday Club of Central Jersey leader Ben Blum. "Three rest stops, 2 support vehicles, 7 miles, and everyone gained weight on the ride." "Some of the best rides are discovering your own town with people you can meet regularly with," says Bike Friday Club of Washington DC leader Charmaine Ruppolt, who likes exploring so much she organizes a different route every month.
