Walter's single speed
Walter Lapchynski's Fixed Friday - until recently it didn't even have a brake!

WHIILE everyone's battling to get more and more gears (what, 27 still ain't enough?) some folks are going decidedly s-i-m-p-l-e. Read about the growing numbers of Fixed and Simple Fridays here.

Sales Consultant Walter Lapchynski built himself a fancy single speed Bike Friday Pocket Rocket Pro that you flat road fanciers can drool over here.

The exciting news is that although BF are famous for making folding bikes with enough gears to take you up Everest, you can now also order a minimalist Bike Friday just like Walter's.

Apart from simplicity and lightness for flat terrain riding, a fixed gear bike has marvellous training benefits: you get strength training going up even the slightest hill and spin training going down the other side.

Call Walter if you want to talk about your here-to-7-Eleven-and-back Friday!

From the perch of Fred the Bike Friday Parakeet:

Fixed gear nut Mike Rasmussen sent a message putting me straight: Fixed gear bikes aren't for the flats. They're for all terrain. A fixed gear rider typically passes geared bike riders climbing a grade then fall behind on the descent. Well, perhaps Mike should try the infamous Gimpl Hill over here Eugene way - I of course, have no trouble getting up there on my fixed wing ...

And now the owner of this stunning machine, Walter Lapchynski, has just sent this rude reply:

"Hey you little rat with wings! Might I add that last time I went over Gimpl, I rode a fixed gear and beat everyone up. So nyah."

EDI loves his ONE WAY tikit!

TIKIT Eddie Johnson Djata FIXED 08
Eddie Johnson aka Edi Djata, fixed tikit aka fixit - Claremont farmer's market in Oakland, CA

I love my One-Way tikit. The handlebar is actually a 1930 era Lauterwasser bar. It's been a blast to ride since the day I unfolded it out of the box. It even has me salivating about a Speeding tikit even though I already have a Pocket Rocket Pro! It must be true that there is no such thing as too many bikes! My tikit and I will be participating in a product launch fashion show this Thursday at Warm Planet bike shop in San Francisco, www.bikeknickers.com. She even gives a shout out to Bike Friday in her blog. Here I am modeling local designer JoyRider.com knickers and sporting their innovative vestpack. Yes, my tikit has become my daily companion on a lot of adventures both in the flatlands in when the roads began to incline upwards. It hasn't let me down yet. I think my PRP may be getting a little envious ...
